Ebola! This is the terrifying word in Africa right now. This deadly virus kills over 50% of those infected. West African countries of Giana, Sierra Leone and Liberia are in a plague crisis, with little hope of stemming the tide of death. May God intervene and do what man cannot do – stop this virus!
There is another virus plaguing all of Africa, the HIV virus. Not so much is being said in the media about this deadly killer. HIV has left a trail of death, fear, and poverty in its path. Millions of African children are homeless, helpless, and hopeless because AIDS has struck down their parents in the prime of life.
Because of the extreme poverty in rural Africa, the continent is ill prepared to care for its orphaned children. There is seldom a week goes by that our office does not get an appeal to help orphaned kids-somewhere in the African bush.
The picture attached to this blog came to me yesterday. The young man in front of this group of orphans is Charles M on our staff in Tanzania. He is overwhelmed with the need he sees everywhere he goes- children without parents, homes, food, clothes or a future. This group is sleeping in a make shift church that Charles planted. They sleep on dirty pads, no mattresses or beds. One small meal a day is their only hope of survival. Charles has asked me to help them.
I ask you, what can I do with so many? The need is vastly greater than the supply. Well, one thing we are doing is educating over 1,000,000 school kids each year about sex, HIV, and moral purity. HIV education is better than a condom in a culture so ignorant of how a virus can spread and kill. Since we began 14 years ago, BWM has educated over 3 million youth and adults in 7 African nations. Surely that has slowed the advance of the HIV virus in those nations.
However, we still must feed and clothe those who cannot do it for themselves. So, I want to see if anyone with a compassionate heart will help Charles M feed and clothe these kids standing with him in this picture. I just wrote a check to BWM for $100 to get the ball rolling. I marked it Charles’ orphans.
You can go online right here at this BWM web site and do the same:
