Have you seen the latest Christian message film-“Do You Believe?” I highly recommend you see this good film. It will make you proud to be a Christ-Follower in today’s post-modern world. I find it very encouraging that media is being used effectively to break the “Sound of Silence” coming out of the Evangelical church. In a day when Christians are being attacked from all sides, when the voice of the pulpit is largely silent, and when Hollywood and its leftist anti-Christian ideology is spitting out its poison in theatres around the world; how refreshing to see films being produced that are Biblically strong and Gospel appealing. May their tribe increase!
You are aware that the secular world is putting the squeeze on the Christian Church. So much so that one can observe the aggressive movement to remove evangelicals from the relevant landscape.
Religion Privatized
The last twenty years I have observed a gradual but definite move in public life and policy to remove all religion from any relevance in society. The liberals have been saying to all religions, “Keep your mouth shut!” Their message has been that your religion is ok as long as it is private. Keep your faith to yourself and keep it inside the walls of you synagogue, mosque or church. Do not bring your beliefs to the marketplace, to city hall, or to the schools. Especially do not try to spread your faith by enlisting others. This prevailing view the past few years has been accepted by Religionists, and Christians in particular with a hurt look, sad eyes, and a dumbing down of our beliefs, passion, and pride. We have not fought back as we should. We have been far too passive.
Religion Compromised
The end result of our silence and acceptance has been an ever increasing insistence by those who hate us to bully us even further. It is not enough that the church be silenced, they want us to agree with them! For example, the LGBT coalition now pursues us to endorse their agenda. They push for churches to hire homosexual pastors, endorse gay marriages, and in every way admit they are right and the biblical based faith that rejects their agenda is wrong. This is where we are today. Our silence has encouraged the left to ask for our endorsement. They now actually believe that their truth is the only truth! There is no room at their house for our truth! We must be the ones to leave.
That is where our passive silence has brought us. In this world you always get what you tolerate!
The Frog in the Kettle
American Christians, Jews, and others have become like the proverbial frog sitting on the stove while the water is slowly boiling. We have sat here so long we are now nearly cooked! It has happened before in history and it is being repeated again. It happened to the church in Nazi Germany during the early years of the Third Reich. Lutheran pastors, on the payroll of the Third Reich were silent as the abuses of freedom continued. Finally, the voice of the state church in Germany was silenced, bought and paid for. It was only the minority voice of the dissenting church, led by Pastor Dietrich Bonhoeffer and his small group that protested. By then, it was too late and freedoms were lost, as was the Nation.
Show up, Stand up, Speak up!
Where are the voices crying out “Enough?” As the darkness increases the light must shine even brighter. There was a day in America when the voice of the pulpit was a majority voice and was heard, respected, and obeyed. That day is gone, but still the church must lead not follow the culture. Our voice is still a majority if we’ll but speak it, show up and stand up. Our bright light of the Gospel will always push back the darkness. It is not always politically correct, not always easy, but it will dispel the darkness. We must make our stand for righteous, love, and justice. When we are no longer silent- we can win back our nation, and the respect of the World.
Stop Whining and Do Something!
Hear me now. It is not enough to just voice our complaints against those who push us into our church pews and tell us to sit there quietly. It is not enough to just sit there and pray our enemies will go away. We must get up, get out, and get going to take back our culture. We are the strongest coalition in America if the church of Jesus Christ will unite and fight back. We can vote in the changes we pray for… We can learn to respond to the left in compassionate, but firm biblical ways that reflect our commitment to the Gospel. We can do more than complain and whine like whipped puppies. I’ll have more to say about this next time.
