It is mind boggling that in our age of technology, a Boeing 777 can disappear.
What a mysterious happening. We are saddened by images of parents, husbands, wives, and entire families totally at a loss as to the sudden absence of those loved ones aboard that fated flight. They want and deserve an answer.
We use the word “closure” to in an effort to describe how the human heart needs to know what has happened to those who died. Somehow the knowing is the closing.
I have a thought about the 239 people aboard Malaysia Flight 370-they are lost. Yes, lost. That is a Biblical description of all humanity. Like those on Flight 370, we too are lost as human beings. We seem to be on a flight without a pilot, or on a plane whose pilot means to destroy us all. The one word Jesus used most frequently to identify humanity without God was this word lost.
How lost are we? Just think on this- a pilot of a major airliner can intentionally kill 239 people and take his own life as well. Or if not that, someone else forced the pilots to fly that plane somewhere and killed the passengers while doing so. Either way, if evil was involved in this mysterious disappearance- then it is evil with a capital E. It is this possibility of deliberate evil intent that chills my soul. How dark a culture are we living in these days? This is the 21st Century for God’s sake! We have smart phones, iPads, and multitudes of gadgets to help us communicate and make our lives better. But are we better? I mean as a civilization, are we better? I think not. I think Jesus was right-we are lost!
I just paused to pray for the families of those whose loved ones were on Flight 370. You should do likewise. If the plane indeed went down into the sea, some are in heaven today because they knew and loved Christ our Savior. They are not lost-they are found by Him who never loses one of His sheep. Those who did not know Christ are more than dead, they are lost for all eternity. This is why as I fly back and forth to Africa aboard a Boeing 777 I often engage those sitting next to me in a conversation about eternity. I have said to people, “If this plane goes down, are you going up?” This is a valid question for us all. We are not prepared to live until, we are totally prepared to die. I am prepared because Christ prepared a way for me on the Cross and I have believed in Him. I am not lost nor ever will be again.
How about you? How about those who come in contact with you today? He came to seek them and save them, I want to join Him in the seeking.
