Thank you to the 12 American volunteers that came to Mbarara this past February to share the love of Christ with our Ugandan brothers and sisters. This part of Africa is a beautiful and mountainous region reminiscent of Southern California, but with many more matoke (banana) trees. BWM and several local Doctors participated in a medical and evangelism outreach in 3 different villages while Barry and the rest of the team hosted a training conference with over 40 pastors.
Both the conference and the outreach mission were a huge success. I have spoken to several of the attendees and all were incredibly grateful for the practical and most importantly biblical training they received and can’t wait to bring it back to their home churches. Likewise, our evangelism team spent the week playing with the children, praying with the sick, and sharing the Gospel of Christ to everyone who came to the clinic.
Our team of Doctors and nurses were able to see over 500 patients who otherwise have very little access to regular medical care. In fact, the World Health Organization estimates that there is only 1 doctor for every 25,725 Ugandans. Free Medical outreach opportunities like this are a huge benefit to the community. The doctors are equipped to treat many common illnesses and will prescribe medication and provide guidance on where to seek treatment locally for more serious issues.
Additionally, these types of outreach give our team an opportunity to share Christ with thousands of people. Many of these people are hearing about Jesus for the first time and others have spent years in dead churches and dead religion without anyone showing them the grace and love of our Lord and Savior. It is truly a blessing to see the light in someone’s eyes as they realize that they can be secure in their salvation through Christ instead of the works and rule based religion that many have grown up with.
Our team in Mbarara is already going back following up with the villages we work in. Over the next several months they will show Christian movies in local languages and disciple many of the new believers. We are praying that God will put a strong leader in place and we will plant several new Churches.
Again, we can’t thank everyone enough for volunteering their time and energy to come such a long way to share the light of the Gospel. Furthermore, we are incredibly grateful to all of those who supported our team both in prayer and financially. We couldn’t do this without you!
