I recently wrote about our 3rd generation disciples; there are over 500 pastors in 6 African countries.
These pastors and churches are direct products of our BWM staff on motorbikes going into the bush and sharing the gospel through the Jesus film, evangelism and discipleship. This May, we will begin training these pastors in Kenya and Uganda, using the ESV Study Bible. Later in the year we will return to train the rest who are in other countries. This surprisingly is our biggest challenge. How do we get those bibles into these African countries? Each bible weighs 2.5 pounds, so you can imagine the difficulty of shipping 500 of them. Smuggling bibles is something I used to do in communist Eastern Europe, but those days are gone. Bringing in goods to African customs is a “hairy” situation, as corruption is common among border guards. You never know what bribes are requested to get your missionary tools into the country.
Last year we arrived in Uganda by plane with $2,000 in meds for a medical mission. We had every clearance covered (we thought) only to have one customs official hi-jack our medicines. It took me two days of “African style” negotiation to get our meds released. They stole ½ of them and we paid a hefty price to release the balance. So, getting new Study Bibles into 6 countries needs God’s favor and much intercession. Lift this need up to the Father- He loves His Word and He loves missions. We trust Him to open a way to get these ESV Study tools into the hands of our men. Join me in prayer for this. Should you desire to donate funds for these study bibles, click here to go to our donor link on this web site. And specify it is for “Bibles”.
Still in the fight.
