Are you thinking of making some New Year’s resolutions? Well, if so, good luck with that! Most such promises do not last a month, much less a year! We pledge to ourselves to lose weight, only to gain it back; we pledge to stop smoking, stop drinking, stop cursing, stop, stop, stop!!! It seldom ever amounts to any real change in behaviors.
These resolutions are probably not resolves at all so much as they are wishes, hopes, and other emotions. Surely there is a better way to have a better new year in 2014.
Try this, begin to live this new year with a vision for what your life could be. Rather than sucking it up in another “resolution,” let’s agree to live the life abundant that Jesus promised His followers. Some of you, my readers, have read my book, “DESTINY: YOU and GOD” in which we are challenged to believe that the God of the Universe knows our name and has a plan for each of us. This plan is our God-given destiny.
So, think of it this way- God your Father already has 2014 mapped out for you. Your destiny awaits you as you believe in Him and follow Him. He has promised to direct your path, guide your steps, by preparing a way before you even take the first step!
Also, this destiny plan for you in both infinite and finite. It is infinite in that it is all inclusive, meaning that anything that is of concern to His children is of concern to the Father. This plan (destiny) is finite in that even the hairs on your head are counted in His plan. He leaves nothing to chance with His children. We are told,
Do not worry about anything, but rather to pray about everything. – Phil. 4:6
That is not a resolution, but a revelation! Peter said it this way, “Casting all your cares upon Him” (1st Peter 5:7) So, whatever it is that needs changing, fixing, altering, or repenting, destiny will take care of it. Rather than making promises you cannot keep, throw yourself upon His mercy and grace, asking your Heavenly Father take your life and make it an abundant New Year. That’s what I am going to do! It was written over 100 years ago, but still is true:
I am resolved no longer to linger,
Charmed by the world’s delight,
Things that are higher, things that are nobler,
These have allured my sight.
I will hasten to Him, hasten so glad and free;
Jesus, greatest, highest, I will come to Thee.
I will hasten, hasten to Him, hasten so glad and free;
Jesus, Jesus, greatest, highest, I will come to Thee.
I am resolved to follow the Savior,
Faithful and true each day;
Heed what He sayeth, do what He willeth,
He is the living Way.
I am resolved to enter the kingdom
Leaving the paths of sin;
Friends may oppose me, foes may beset me,
Still will I enter in.
I am resolved, and who will go with me?
Come, friends, without delay,
Taught by the Bible, led by the Spirit,
We’ll walk the heav’nly way.
Come walk with me in 2014!
